As the New Year starts, most people worry about ways to improve their financial status. It has become clear that in such times the best solution would be to look into agriculture and practice a few things that can aid with that. This article looks to explore the different farming practices one could be involved in to improve their financial status.

As an individual, it would be most lucrative to invest in horticultural farming as a farming practice. Horticulture deals with the plantation of crops, generally fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants. As a general term, it covers all forms of garden management, but in ordinary use it refers to intensive commercial production.  A farmer start on a small scale planting vegetables and then re selling them for profit. Being involved in horticulture means one would have to consider such things as the type of soil suitable for plantation, temperature, irrigation practices and also the use of fertilizers.

Another farming practice one would be interested in would be the rearing of chickens. It deals with raising of birds domestically or commercially, primarily for meat and eggs but also for feathers. Buying chicks and raising them either for meat or eggs can be interesting to an individual. As a chicken farmer one would have to know and understand the management, feeding and the control of diseases to help ensure better results. Feeding ensures maximum intake of energy for growth and fat production. Chickens are quite susceptible to a number of diseases. Strict sanitary precautions, the intelligent use of antibiotics and vaccines, help with the control of diseases.

One could also be interested in goat farming. Goat is a multi-use animal which is commonly reared for the meat. Goat farming can be very suited to production alongside other livestock such as sheep and cattle on low-quality grazing land. Investing in goat farming can be profitable as they require minimum care when it comes to feeding. The main concern would be on vaccination and disease control. Venturing into this practice the farmer would have to consider the breed of goat suitable for rearing and the location, considering such things as the climate and water supply.

One other farming practice that might be of interest would be the keeping of bees. Beekeeping (or apiculture) is the maintenance of bee colonies, commonly in man-made beehives. Beekeepers (or apiarists) keep bees to collect honey and other products of the hive beeswax, bee pollen, and royal jelly and this can be very profitable to an individual looking to venture into the agricultural market with a unique farming practice. Bees secrete beeswax in tiny flakes on the underside of the abdomen and mold it into honeycomb, thin-walled, back-to-back, six-sided cells.

There are a lot of farming practices one could have an interest in venturing in, the above are just a few that might prove profitable and usually do not need much to start or maintain. A Farmer might also be interested in aquaculture, the production of fertilizers or even processing of food products in order to help generate income and improve their livelihoods.
